Hamefarin 2010

SHETLAND HAMEFARIN 2010

Mrs Malcolmson and Classes 1C and 2B, have made a link with a school in New Zealand. Year 7-8 Students in the James Cook School, Mill Street Marton, New Zealand!

This follows a visit to the school by Mrs Robin Peirce in June, during the Shetland Hamefarin. Her relatives, (the Malcolmsons), emigrated from Exnaboe. The Sandwick pupils have written to pupils in New Zealand and replies are on the way.

    Earthquake , Christchurch

A message from Ellie Millar, Megan Leslie and Kieran Flaws, S1C- this is a quick note just asking if you are all all right and we hope an earthquake does not hit North Island. ? We heard about the earthquake in New Zealand and we are very concerned and hope that none of your friends or family in the South Island have been affected. We would love it if you could reply to us as soon as you can.

    The postcards

The postcards have arrived. Both classes have nearly finished their replies and will be posted shortly. We are also making a display of the postcards at the reception area and trying to be very creative! We will be sending a photograph of the display once it is finished. Next week we will be posting news from individual pupils about important events since Christmas. Hope you all had a great summer holiday. Samuel Watt Class 2B

    French

Pupils should be revising the vocab and grammar studied since the beginning of the year: Vocab on school (subject, opinions, description of buildings, daily routine at school etc...) work (jobs, describing your work placement etc...). The grammar included both types of future tense (Je vais + infinitive ; and the "futur simple! and its irregular verbs). We will hopefully have some time period 8 on Monday to talk about Wednesday's French prelims.

    Correction

That last sentence should, of course, read 'parents'. Sorry for the error!

    evans2chemweb

The best site on the web - bar none!
Those webtests are excellent for giving me instant feedback on progress through the topics.

Mrs Skinner is also prepared to help in the same way - email . ALSO - Don't forget the past papers you already have and the revision guide!! The website matsisfun.com might also be useful (not just for playing games) also mathsrevision.com this one covers the whole sylabus - lots of info, past papers, powerpoints etc, so if you've left the books in school.....shame on you......but this will help.

    Count down to Divali

Count down to Divali! Will upload photos for you of our celebrations here. Had a great time at 2 weddings last week and experiencing the Hindu traditions connected to the marriage ceremonies. Spent a lovely relaxing few days in Kerala as well on the backwaters and in the hills. Mind you plenty of leaches on the forest walk and one managed to get through the special protective socks and attach itself to my ankle the little nuisance!

Firecrackers are becomming a nightly sound now as the Divali celebrations start on Thursday evening. I am celebrating it with my host family and looking forward to it!

Planning for the school partnership is going well here and we had a good meeting in Chennai with British Council as well as lots of resource shopping for the school while we were up there.

Our first celebrating science exhibition was a great success and is a scheduled event int he school calendar now.

Photos will be uploaded shortly! Thanks to P3/4 for your message it was lovely to read that you had been on the website. Hope to connect up online with you soon!

    bye for now
