ENGLISH STANDARD GRADE FOLIO

A REMINDER FOR DAY FOR FOURTH YEAR! 

S4 pupils are reminded that they should be able to identify the items that they are submitting for their Standard Grade folio by the week that includes 14th February - Valentine's Day!

This should contain the following:

Three Critical Essays on the Reading they have done throughout the year. There should be any two from the following; Prose, Drama and Poetry;

Two Writing Essays - one should be factual/discursive; the other imaginative/ personal. 

 It should be noted that there will still be time to change/ alter their essays after that date. Final drafts should be in place by 11th March, with only minor modifications allowed after then.

 Pupils also have to submit a Critical Essay on the novel, 'Heroes' by 14th February. They have been issued with Handbooks to assist them in this task, which will be largely independent to help them prepare for the demands of both S5 and adult life.

 They will also undertake a Critical Essay on poetry - either 'Horses' by Edwin Muir or 'Shooting Stars' by Carol Ann Duffy - which will be completed in class. This might also be suitable for inclusion in their folios.
